About Us

The Vancouver Economic Review is a student-led publication covering financial markets, economics, and public policy. We publish clear, data-driven analysis that combines original research with accessible writing.

Founded by students at the Vancouver School of Economics, the Review exists to foster informed public commentary on the forces shaping our economy, and to give emerging analysts and writers a serious editorial platform to develop their ideas and share them with the wider community. The journal is nonpartisan and committed to protecting and promoting critical thinking. Our central aim is to keep students' minds active and engaged, because the ability to generate original ideas is a skill built through practice, and one that has been increasingly undermined in recent years.

Our History

  1. February – March 2022

    Early Beginnings

The initiative began as a digital curation project, sharing breaking economics news and insights through social media.

  2. April 2022 – June 2025

    Pause

After its initial run, the project was interrupted.

  3. July 2025

    The Economics Gazette

The initiative was revived and restructured as The Economics Gazette, a weekly digest of markets, economics, and policy written exclusively by UBC economics students. It published 30 issues and grew to about 200 subscribers.

  4. October 2026

    The Vancouver Economic Review

Marking a shift from summarizing the news to producing original, independent student research, the Gazette was reimagined and relaunched as the Vancouver Economic Review.
